Just a quickie as have stumbled across this web site. How can prisoners currently in prison have the option on commenting on this site and work, is there a printable form that Carat workers could give to their clients ?

Working with young people, what is being done to realise that young people have different needs to those of the adult population, therefor adult models of treatment are not suitable. One size does not all !

Treatment for YO's

Hi
I agree we need to be looking at offering more options for Young offenders. Currently the only option for those I work with is P-ASRO, a 6 week programme. Surely we should be offering longer term programmes looking at whole lifestyle, a more holistic approach. Many of those I work with need to learn lifeskills as well as deal with their substance misuse.

yo's and there carers

i think that there carers partners or CSO need to be included with training education codependeacey drug information and recovery

not sent around in circles and the tools to deal with substance missuse and if it is in the community it would stop the stigma and at the very foundation there could be a change .
here is something that was said by a group of carers in manchester on inexcess tv one woman talks about schools and community and offending
it's so simple in this programme you just have to listen ......manchesters carers focus group have been trying to tell the dast in manchester for a year or more but........ they just seemed to want to control them, and tick the boxs, to say that we engaged them..
Now they have lost a good chance of engaging with the community and it would have been modeled in the community to make a cultural change with relational depth but .... THE DAST JUST THINK VOTES AND POLITICS ?
AND LET'S HAVE A FORUM ......THAT WE CONTROL ?
the services underestermate the peoples awareness

and the carers wanted honest no hidden agendas recovery, and have lost faith with services and will not take any funding so they can express what there needs for there ...yo's with substance missuse are ?

you must have a listen to them in this link
http://www.inexcess.tv/?p=6455&v=1 part 1

http://www.inexcess.tv/?p=6532&v=1 part 2

the community is growing they have over a hundred members .......get it right in the community foundations with recovery or when the change comes in 2010 the year of recovery ......and they have votes ...

we are the public servants... and the public ?

Young People and Substance Misuse Services

Hi Sharonf,
Thanks for your feedback. At the moment there isn't a service user version of the website, but I am currently in the process of conducting a service user engagement exercise on behalf of Lord Patel - we have a questionnaire and a forum script so that people can feed back. Have a look in latest news for more information. I am also thinking about creating a newsletter for service users and carers because so many of them do not have access to the internet.
Can you please clarify what you mean by young people? At the moment our review only goes as young as 18 as the children's estate is under a seperate remit as I would agree it is a different issue. That said, we are interested in the differential needs of 18-21 year olds in prison and are trying to include their views as part of service user engagement. There is also a governor from a prison that holds YOIs on the review.

About Service User Involvement

Hi I am one of the Service User Involvement Officers in Liverpool, I have been trying to get inot Styal Prison to talk about our group Community Voice based in Liverpool, I still hear of sad stories off some of the Women who are released from Styal who are still being met by their dealers, the reason being that there is nobody else who meets them at the gate upon release, we have tried (in vain) to get funding for some of our Volunteers to befriend those women, well those who are coming home to the Liverpool area, so that they feel less vulnerable & can be shown what services are available here in Liverpool. I myself have been on that side of the fence (so to speak) as I had a drug problem that led me into prison, I finished my last sentence in Sept of 2000 & it is sad to say that "gate release" has not changed all that much in nearly 10 years I just hope that my persistance pays off & I can at least help some of the women on release.

On release

Hi Maggie,
Thanks for your post. I would agree that gate release is a problem - not just for Styal but a number of prisons where people are met by dealers at the prison gate or train station. It is something that has been raised by all of the service user groups I have attended. Having a volunteer there to meet people is a fantastic idea and something that should be commissioned by local services as part of drug treatment and a commitment towards recovery. Hopefully the Lord Patel review will help to make this happen and your persistance will finally pay off!

Service user involvement

I'm coordinator for the Users Feedback Organisation in Bristol and our service users will be taking part in the Lord Patel questionnaire on tuesday 1st September it's doubly interesting for us as there are many treatment facilities in Bristol and our forum are waiting for security clearance to do a similar questionnaire in Horfield jail. Hopefully the outcomes will lead to positive outcomes for the future.

Hi Ryan
thanks for the post, how was the consult?

What kind of theme was in the forum and was there a main area that the group felt was not being met?

Persons who are taking drug

Persons who are taking drug treatments will need support from parents, family members and friends. These drug addicted persons can be treated in different ways as per their conditions. If a patient is willing to listen to the doctor and withdraw using drugs, then he will be treated for physiological effects. Then he will be given a counseling lesson how to stay out of these drugs.
